TOPIC: Imperishable Glory (DCLM Daily Manna 11 July 2021)
TEXT: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
KEY VERSE: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” – (2 Corinthians 3:18)
MESSAGE:
All the beauties in this world will pale into insignificance when compared to the beauty and the glory of the coming Christ and by extension, all Christians. “When he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). We shall also share in His unfading and imperishable glory!
Paul contrasted the glory of the old covenant with the glory of the new. Since the sacrifices in the old covenant could not really set the offender free from sin, those who administered them laboured fruitlessly over sin. But the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross at Cavalry is far superior to the old covenant because with it, there is a complete justification and freedom from sin. By it, a sinner turns into a saint and becomes a joint-heir with the Son in the kingdom of God.
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments, his face glowed for being in God’s presence. Moses had to put on a veil so the people would not be terrified by the brightness of his face and from seeing its radiance which soon faded away. Moses and his veil illustrate the fading away of the old covenant and the veiling of the people’s mind because of their pride, hardness of heart, and refusal to repent. When anyone becomes a Christian, the veil is stripped off, giving the individual eternal life and freedom from bondage to sin. That person can then be like a mirror, reflecting God’s glory.
The glory that the Spirit imparts to the believer is more excellent and lasts longer than the glory that Moses experienced. By beholding the nature of God with unveiled minds, we can be more like Him. The more closely we follow Christ, the more we will be like Him and be partakers of His glory.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Christ is the Giver of everlasting glory.
