TOPIC: Selfless Ministry (DCLM Daily Manna 11 June 2021)

TEXT: Romans 15:23-30

23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;

24 Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company.

25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.

26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.

28 When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain.

29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

KEY VERSE: “But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.” – (Romans 15:25)

MESSAGE:

Paul, in the passage today, demonstrated how dedicated and addicted he was to the service of the Lord. He was committed to preaching the gospel anywhere, everywhere as well as ministering to the needs of the saints. Through his singular effort and in partnership with others of like-precious faith, he spared no effort, nor counted any sacrifice too dear to make in order to ensure the spread of the gospel. He did not consider any distance too long from Rome to Spain via Jerusalem having touched all areas in the Roman empire. Paul was full of enthusiasm, hope and high expectations as he trusted in Him who has said, “Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world”. He was also resilient; not reclining when he suffered any setback. Even his foreknowledge of possible danger from them that do not believe did not make him to recoil. All these and more are the secrets of his ministerial successes. It demonstrate the spirit all evangelists should have.

Many churches and ministries concentrate today on cities where the land had been cultivated and the work of evangelism is less challenging and quickly ‘rewarding’. Individuals tend to avoid challenging terrains when on evangelistic outreaches. Sadly, evangelism is not included in the ever-busy schedules of some Christians today. They are always too busy with secular work that has no eternal value. Yet “Only one life… only what’s done for Christ will last!”

Paul’s life is a challenge to an average Christian today. He was a man of like-passion but was successful in ministering because he counted all but dung for the glory of God. He was ready to go anywhere God led. We may not always know where He will lead us to but the choice is ours to follow.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
When He leads, we surely can never be misled.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
2 Samuel 15-16
