Viewers of HBO‘s Real Time with Bill Maher, which is now on its 19th season, may have tuned in last night expecting to watch Episode 17. After yet another eventful week in politics, with Ivanka Trump now being criminally investigated in New York and The House of Representatives vote on Wednesday to approve a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, did Maher get to deliver his usual cynical political commentary?
The HBO host, who is fully vaccinated, tested positive during weekly staff PCR testing for COVID prior to last week’s episode, resulting in its cancelation. Maher is reportedly asymptomatic and “feels fine.”
Last night had all the makings for a good episode to say the least. A few Republican congressmen and women took a new stance, referring to the January 6 insurrectionists as “tourists.” Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz also continues to be the subject of an ongoing U.S. Justice Department probe into sex trafficking.
There’s also the pandemic that’s still happening and a push to get everyone vaccinated against the virus as well as both an American infrastructure and voting rights bill on the table from the Biden administration in addition to the Republican Party still trying to figure out where it stands in the aftermath of former President Donald Trump. Should viewers have expected Bill Maher to weigh in on these topics and more last night?
Unfortunately, that did not occur. There was no new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday, May 21.
Thus far, there have been fifteen new episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher in season 19. The popular HBO show should return to the air as scheduled next week.
