English Premier League Chairman, Hoffman resigns

Premier League Chairman, Gary Hoffman has resigned after just 18 months in the job, according to The Athletic.

Hoffman has resigned as the details of his departure are now being finalised after a number of top flight clubs demanded he left the position.

One of the major reasons that led to his resignation was the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of Newcastle United.

The report said that the controversy over the European Super League is another reason but the Newcastle situation proved too much for Hoffman to survive.

There are concerns about how the new owners passed the owners’ and directors’ test due to human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia, with Amnesty International since calling for the ownership test to be changed.

Hoffman, who was chairman of Monzo Bank Limited, Hastings Group Holdings plc and Coventry Building Society, became the EPL boss in July 2020.
