EPL: Cavani unhappy after Man United asked him to give his shirt to Sancho
Manchester United recently angered striker Edinson Cavani when the club requested of him to release his number 7 jersey to Jadon Sancho, according to The Athletic.
This happened in the summer after Sancho completed his £73 million moves from Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho, who wore the No.7 shirt for the duration of his time at the German side was tipped to take up the same number following his arrival at Manchester United.
The sports site reports that the England winger was initially offered the No.7 shirt last year whilst United were still negotiating a fee with the German side for his signature.
Reports said Cavani was ‘a little put out’ by the club’s attempts to take the shirt from him when Sancho finally arrived Old Trafford in the summer.
However, Cavani then gave up the No.7 to Portugal superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo’s following his surprise return to United and took up the No.21 shirt.
‘I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again,’ Ronaldo said after his return to United.
‘I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.’
