EPL: Tuchel given credit for reviving three Chelsea players ‘finished’ under Lampard
Former Chelsea striker, Tony Cascarino, has given manager, Thomas Tuchel, credit for reviving the careers of three players of his squad since taking over from former coach, Frank Lampard in January.
The players are Christian Pulisic, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Cascarino believes Tuchel needs to be credited with getting the best out of his current squad and for his decision-making in the summer transfer market.
Tuchel has transformed Chelsea since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, taking a disjointed set of talented players and creating a unit that gets the best out of the collective squad.
Under Tuchel, Chelsea won the 2020/21 Champions League last season and also finished in fourth position. The German also led Chelsea to victory in the Super Cup final this month.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Cascarino said: “Pulisic played centre-forward [against Crystal Palace], scored a goal and caused havoc.
“Alonso wasn’t seemingly wanted anymore at Chelsea. Ends up being a player for them and was offered as being part of the [Romelu] Lukaku deal, and they have kept him.
“I have seen him play so well for Chelsea and I thought he was finished at the football club.”
He added: “I thought Azpilicueta was finished at the football club and he played wing-back yesterday. Chelsea are a really good side.”
“It was not a scenario, much less desired, but I respected the coach and tried to help from the outside.”
