Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho was fortunate that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Bukayo Saka’s spot kick during England’s defeat to Italy.
Ferdinand said this while trying to establish the fact that anyone can miss spot kicks no matter how experienced they are and the techniques they employ.
Jorginho, who is a super penalty taker for club and country, missed the chance to give Italy the trophy earlier on during the shootout and was relieved to see Saka miss his decisive spot kick for England.
Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford also missed their penalties and Ferdinand, a Manchester United legend, believes that style does not really matter.
“You can miss in any style,” Ferdinand told BBC.
“Saka didn’t shuffle, he went up to it quickly. It’s difficult. Jorginho did the same thing, that shuffle, but he’s just fortunate enough that his keeper stepped up and made a big save at the end.
“You have to be brave. I’ve seen seasoned players with hundreds of games under their belt turn away from a penalty.”
