Jason Clayborn & The Atmosphere Changers Score One Million Streams On Pandora
It’s been a long hard journey for Louisville, KY’s Jason Clayborn who began his career as a singer with the Christian Hip-Hop group, The Righteous Riders, twenty years ago. Since the group disbanded in 2004, Clayborn has become a successful songwriter with an armful of hits for artists such as Hezekiah Walker who recorded his song “Better” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart and earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2016. After recording solo and cameo recordings with the likes of Jack Harlow, he formed a choir, The Atmosphere Changers, in 2016. Their debut album, God Made It Beautiful (Jay Clay / Tyscot), recently released to digital music platforms everywhere and the beautiful title ballad – a majestic chorale piece – has just surpassed a million streams on the Pandora music platform.
“I feel excited about putting an album out that I feel has no `skips’,” Clayborn says. There’s a song for everyone. There’s a song for the young person, a song for Generation X, the millennial, my grandmother – There’s a song for everyone. I want the listener to feel the way I felt when I heard Kirk Franklin’s God’s Property record where I didn’t skip a song. That’s what I wanted people to feel when I started planning this album and the fact that the song the album is named after now has over a million Pandora streams is truly humbling to me.”
The project’s first radio single “Praise Belongs to You” peaked at No. 28 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart last year and the current single, “You’re All I Need (The Remix),” is already No. 28 with a bullet on the same survey. Clayborn originally wrote the song for Hezekiah Walker and The Love Fellowship Choir’s 2008 album, Souled Out. Although it was never released as a radio single, it became popular in church worship services. Clayborn thought it would be cool to update the song and to get Walker to record it with him and the group. The collaboration is a huge success, and the music video is already in rotation on BET’s 24-hour Gospel channel. “I’ve been out here a long time supporting other artists and their dreams. It just feels good to now receive that same support from the music industry, but mostly to feel it from the public.”
