The Falcons might be getting what they want for Julio Jones.
Atlanta has had several talks with teams, including one centering around a future first-round draft pick, ESPN.com reported. Initial reports suggested that the Falcons were hoping they could bring back a first-rounder for the star receiver.
The deteriorating situation between player and team escalated this week when Fox Sports host Shannon Sharpe called Jones during his “Undisputed” show. Jones told Sharpe he was “out of here” when asked about Atlanta, confirming trade speculation that had been circulating for weeks.
Front Office Sports reported the Falcons were blindsided by the shocking call and feared that it would hurt their bargaining position.
There is some doubt in league circles that the Falcons could maximize the return on Jones, given his $23 million cap hit. That number can be split over two seasons if the trade happens after June 1.
It might not be long after that. ESPN reported that the trade could happen as soon as next week.
The Patriots and Titans have been been the teams most closely linked to Jones with players on both AFC contenders trying to recruit him. The report added that while there have been talks with the Titans, they are an unlikely trade partner for the Falcons.
