READ: Matthew 6:1-4
- Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
- Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
- But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
- That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Esther 4-6, Acts 5:17-42
MESSAGE:
In today’s Bible reading, our Lord Jesus gives a template on what makes an offering acceptable. He reminds us that our giving is ultimately to God, not man. When we joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God, offerings and tithes were not preached or paid but my wife and I dug deep into the Bible and discovered that one way to become blessed is through giving.
So, when you give in the Church or to the poor, you’re giving to God and He would definitely reward you. Some peoples attitude to giving is their obstacle to being blessed. When you help a fellow in need and you mention it to another person, you will likely not be blessed in return. When you want to give to the less privileged, don’t give torn or dirty clothes. Neither should you give dirty or torn notes as offering in church. Give with the intention that God is present in the venue watching what you give and how you give it. Give wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return.
ACTION POINT:
God checks the motives of giving before rewarding. Don’t give to show-off.
HYMN: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
- All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live
CHORUS
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
- All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. - All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
