The U.S. mission in Nigeria has reacted to Nigeria’s D’Tigers victory over the USA national basketball team at the weekend.
DAILY POST reports that Nigeria shocked the United States of America 90-87 in a pre-Tokyo 2020 warm-up match.
It was an international shocker after the West African giants, with their little-known NBA players, defeated the All-NBA, All-Star and max-contract U.S. side.
USA coach, Gregg Popovich, said after the match, “I thought that the Nigerian team played very physically, did a great job in that regard and knocked down a lot of 3s.”
Miami Heat star, Gabe Nnamdi, led Nigeria with 21 points. Caleb Agada scored 17 points, Ike Nwamu added 13 and Nigeria outscored the U.S. 60-30 from 3-point range.
Reacting, the U.S. Embassy, in a tweet via their Twitter handle on Sunday, congratulated D’Tigers.
It, however, hopes for a rematch at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
The U.S. Embassy tweeted, “Congrats to D’Tigers for their exhibition win over Team USA! We look forward to a rematch at the Olympics.”
