Tokyo Olympics: Only two Nigerian athletes left in relay after 10 are disqualified
Nigeria’s participation in the women’s 4x100m and mixed 4x400m relays at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan is up in the air.
The country now has only two athletes listed for each race by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
On Wednesday, Nigeria had 10 of its representatives disqualified.
They were said to have failed to meet the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 of the Anti-Doping Rules for ‘Category A’ federations.
One of the major requirement of Rule 15 is that “an athlete from a ‘Category A’ country must undergo at least three no-notice out-of-competition tests (urine and blood) conducted not longer than 3 weeks interval apart in the 10 months before a major event.
Track and field competition at Tokyo 2020 begins on Friday (July 30).
