TOPIC: A Heart After God (TREM Devotional 7 March 2022)
“And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.” 2 Kings 4:21 (KJV)
This woman in this account had a heart after God and had been a blessing to Elisha, God blessed her with a son after several years of bareness. This son suddenly died. Assume you are in her shoes. What do you do when your miracle dies?
Often, people tend to nurse their hurts and problems, they rehearse the tragedy over and over in their minds rather than casting their care upon the Lord and resting in His promises 1 Peter 5:7, they allow our afflictions to dominate them. Are you like that? The fact remains that whatever you meditate upon grows. The woman in our text today knew this truth so well, so she refused to focus on the dead child, she focused on the word of the man of God.
First, this woman carried her dead son to the room of the man of God and left him there. She shut the door and left her situation in the hands of God who gave her the miracle in the first place. I understand that this is not an easy thing to do. But what use would it have been for her to sit with the dead body and just cry? She knew crying will not solve the problem so she did what would trigger her miracle. Until you leave it in God’s hand do not expect a miracle. Notice that when Elisha asked her how it was with her, her husband, and her son, she said ‘’It is well.’’
She refused to let grief swallow her because she had not accepted her condition as final. She refused to announce the death of the child. Her faith in God gave her a different perspective on her problem. She was not in denial of the facts; she lived in the reality that God can change the facts. Elisha came to her home and raised her son from the dead because she shut the door on death. Let your heart be devoted to God.
