Chelsea centre-back, Thiago Silva, has credited the club’s former manager, Frank Lampard, for being part of the Blues’ journey to winning the Champions League this season.
Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday night in Porto, thanks to Kai Havertz’s first-half goal.
The Stamford Bridge club would not have made it to the Champions League final without Lampard having first guided them out of the group stage.
Recall that Lampard was sacked in January and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Speaking after the match, Silva, who limped out of the final in the first half, hailed Lampard, who signed him from PSG last summer.
“Without Lampard, I would not be here,” the Brazilian defender told RMC Sport.
“I am very happy, and I hope he will be too.”
“This is the most important moment in my career,” Silva added.
“I am truly very happy. We didn’t manage it with PSG [in last season’s final against Bayern Munich], but today I am very happy. I hope PSG do it too.
“Each time PSG were knocked out, it was made out to be my fault. It’s a shame. I did everything I could for the team.”
